Det Gamle ApoteketDet Gamle Apoteket
The artistic estate of Kenneth Loynes (1924-2002) was moved, postmortem, from Gloucestershire, England to Klevar in Telemark, Norway, and, on June 1st 2003, trustees of the Loynes Gallery welcomed its first visitors. In July 2006 the collection was relocated to DET GAMLE APOTEKET at Lanna near Ulefoss in Telemark, Norway, a small town in which the artist had previously expressed an interest in establishing a studio. Kenneth Loynes was also closely associated with the Fine Arts faculty at the Chang Mai University in Lanna, Thailand, where he spent some time as the artist-in-residence, and it is fitting, as such, that his artistic estate should be accommodated, postmortem, in a place with which he had an affinity in life.

Det Gamle Apoteket is currently being renovated. In addition to the permanent exhibition of works by Kenneth Loynes, it will comprise a facility for exhibiting the works of other artists on a seasonal basis and a small coffee and gift shop, with Bed and Breakfast accommodation also available. The traditional apothecary herb and rose garden is being restored and will be open to the public.

Det Gamle Apoteket is located south of Hardangervidda, a national park of monumental scale and beauty around 100 miles west of Oslo, and is accessible both by road and fjord, with mooring available for those visitors enjoying a trip along the Telemarkskanalen.
